FDD-eNodeB-FDD LTE V3.20 S1 SCTP Multiple Paths to One MME Configuration

Incident Description (Incident Phenomena)
When the MME is configured with more than one IP addresses (at most four addresses), backup of transmission paths can be achieved by means of configuring all these IP addresses in the same S1-C SCTP link of an eNodeB. In this case, one path acts as the primary one and the others are backup paths. When the primary path fails, one backup path is used. After the primary path resumes to work, it takes over the transmission again.
 Solution
Suppose there are two transmission paths for the S1 link between an eNodeB and the MME, the S1-C SCTP link number is 0, the local port number is 36412, the remote port number is 6050, and the remote addresses are 40.1.136.50 and 40.1.136.51.

To configure the multiple-path S1-C SCTP link, set the parameters in the SCTP tab page as follows:
1. SCTP link number: 0

2. Used IP Layer Configuration:
i. Click browse button next to the Used IP Layer Configuration parameter to display the Used IP Layer Configuration dialog box.
ii. In the Used IP Layer Configuration dialog box, select the IP link for S1-C traffics from the drop-down menu of path 0.
iii. Select the IP link for S1-C traffics from the drop-down menu of path 1, and then click OK.
In this example, both path 0 and path 1 are associated with IPLinkNo=0 (the IP link for S1-C traffics).

3. Used bandwidth resource:
i. Click browse button next to the Used bandwidth resource parameter to display the Used bandwidth resource dialog box.
ii. In the Used bandwidth resource dialog box, select the bandwidth resource for SCTP and click OK.
4. Local port number: 36412
5. Remote port number: 6050
6. Remote address:
i. Click browse button next to the Remote address parameter to display the Remote address dialog box.
ii. In the Remote address dialog box, type 40.1.136.50 in the Value column of path 0.
iii. Type 40.1.136.51 in the Value column of path 1 and click OK.

7. Primary path number: 0. It means path 0 is selected as the primary path and path 1 is the backup path.

8. Radio standard:
i. Click browse button next to the Radio standard parameter to display the Radio standard dialog box.
ii. In the Radio standard dialog box, select LTE FDD and click OK.
After all parameters in the SCTP tab page are configured, click save button  to save the configuration. The SCTP tab page then looks like Figure3.
